North American Deciduous Forest

things to see

This planting demonstrates the wealth of species of the North American Deciduous Forest type. Tulip trees, sugar maples, red and white oak, basswood, red maple, sour gum, black walnut, hickory, cucumber tree, silverbell etc. are dominant trees in the Appalachian Mountains. Lots of these species, now only known as fossils on our continent, were also present in Europe before the Ice Ages.
