 Something is growing in Meise!

How to reach the Garden | Français | Nederlands

By air

Brussels Airport is situated in Zaventem near Brussels. For your convenience, the following instructions may be helpful.

  • If you take a taxi, then you leave the arrivals hall through the sliding doors in front of you. Taxis with a taximeter are permanently available in front of the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to the Botanic Garden costs about 32 to 42 euro. Licensed taxis can be recognized by the blue and yellow emblem. Travellers are advised to avoid unlicensed taxis! If you wish to pay by credit card, check beforehand whether your taxi driver accepts it.
  • Make sure the taxi driver brings you to the Botanic Garden in MEISE. Often taxi drivers bring foreign visitors to our former buildings in town (Brussels). In these buildings the cultural centre of the French-speaking community is housed. Due to the fact that this cultural centre retained the name 'Le Botanique' the mistake continues to be made, although we moved out about 30 years ago!

  • If you leave the airport by public transport we recommend that you take the bus (except on Sundays).
The bus station is located on level 0 - one floor down from the arrivals hall - and can be easily reached by using the escalators or elevators. Nearly in the middle of the bus station there is a stop for public transport buses from 'De Lijn' (yellow logo). The following bus lines give connections that can be of use:

Bus '821 (Zaventem-Vilvoorde-Grimbergen-Merchtem)'. Ask the driver to stop at 'Meise Boechtstraat'. You need to be aware that the nearest entrance is the entrance B (Meise-village) and not the main entrance (about 1 km further on).

Bus '820 (Zaventem-Vilvoorde-Jette AZ-VUB-Dilbeek)'. This bus provides connection to the Vilvoorde railway station where you then have to change over to Bus '821'.

  • When you have to go downtown Brussels first, then you take the train. The airport train station is located below the terminal (basement level-1). Up to 4 trains an hour (Brussels Airport Express) connect the airport to Brussels North, Brussels Central and Brussels South stations. Moreover there are direct train services to the East, South and West of Belgium. A trip to Brussels takes about 15 (Brussels North) minutes to 30 (Brussels South) minutes. The single second class fare is about 2.24 euro.
In the Brussels North station you can catch the bus '250 (Brussel-Impde-Londerzeel-Liezele-Puurs)' or '251 (Brussel-Steenhuffel-Londerzeel-Malderen-Puurs)' asking to stop at 'Meise Plantentuin' and you will get out in front of the main gate of the Botanic Garden.
Bus company De Lijn operates express bus services to railway station Brussels North (line 471) and bus company STIB/MIVB operates a 30-minute express service (Airport Line) between Brussels Airport and the European quarter, at a stone's throw from the uptown shops.  Both express buses are located on level 0
