The Society, founded in 1862, is the meeting forum of the Belgian botanists. It promotes research in all fields of plant sciences by organizing meetings and symposia, and by publishing the Belgian Journal of Botany. The Society also proposes excursions to discover Belgium's plant life.

The Society owns a large collection of books and periodicals, which have been deposited in the library of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium , and are accessible to the members of the Society.

Anyone interested in Botany, in Belgium or abroad, may become member of the Society, by paying the membership fee (see below) and sending the completed membership form (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.x or higher), to the treasurer of the Society:

Members in good standing receive the Belgian Journal of Botany and the Miscellanea Botanica Belgica, the information bulletin of the Society.
